Personal Wedding Decor Ideas [With DIY Tips]

As a second-time bride, I’ve been very intentional with each aspect of our wedding. I learned from my first go around that getting lost in the details, appeasing others, and/or minimizing costs can be really easy. As I planned each wedding activity or detail, I set out to keep our love story at the center and to do it in ways that feel authentic to us. And planning the wedding decor was no different. I loved finding ways to incorporate personal touches and create a space that felt like us. Whether you’re planning your first wedding or your second, I hope these ideas inspire you to make your day uniquely yours.

1. Personal Touches Everywhere

One of my favorite details was including personal photos throughout the venue. I placed pictures of my husband and I, and even a few with my daughter, at each table and station. It made the day feel intimate, and our guests enjoyed seeing moments from our life together. I also created a custom wedding logo, which appeared on everything from the welcome sign to the seating chart, bingo cards, and even custom wedding cookies. It was such a simple but meaningful way to tie everything together.

My Tip: Creating a wedding logo adds a cohesive, personalized touch to your decor, and it’s something you can use across multiple elements for years to come.

2. Simple Elegance with Minimal Decor

I generally believe less is more when it comes to decor, especially when you choose a venue that has charm. Our venue had these gorgeous hand-carved wooden tables, elaborate bohemian light fixtures, tall potted plants, and floor-to-ceiling windows, so I didn’t need to add much. I kept the decor minimal but beautiful by using vibrant, rich floral arrangements. Smaller tables had simple arrangements, while larger tables featured garlands. To add a touch of elegance, I used gold accents, including gold doilies at each place setting and gold-trimmed acrylic table numbers.

My Tip: Choosing a venue with built-in beauty can save on decor, allowing you to focus on simple, impactful details.

3. DIY Decor Adds a Personal Touch

There’s something so rewarding about creating your decor. I made the welcome sign, seating chart, table numbers, beverage station signage, bingo cards, and even the ceremony backdrop. It not only added a personal touch but also allowed me to create exactly what I wanted while sticking to my budget. Win, win, and win.

My Tip: Don’t be afraid to DIY! It’s a great way to add personality to your wedding, and smaller items like signs and table numbers are simple projects that can make a big impact.

4. Family-Centered Seating Arrangements

One of my priorities was making our seating arrangements feel thoughtful and intentional. Our venue had three large rectangular tables, each seating 10 people, and smaller tables for groups of 4. I gave one large table to my family, another to my husband’s family, and the third to friends we gained at the job where we first met. It was a simple way to make sure everyone felt connected and included.

My Tip: Arranging seating based on relationships and shared experiences helps foster conversation and creates a more welcoming atmosphere for your guests.

5. Bingo: A Fun, Meaningful Game for Guests

I love bingo! So one of the highlights of the day was our custom wedding bingo game. Each bingo square represented a relationship with one of our guests, from family to childhood friends to work colleagues. It was a fun, interactive way for our guests to pass the time while we took family photos. The prize? A gift card to a bakery owned by a friend who provided some of our treats. My daughter’s best friend won the game, and it was a sweet moment for everyone!

My Tip: Adding a game or interactive activity is a wonderful way to engage guests and create lasting memories during your wedding.

Every choice we made for our decor was meant to make the day feel personal and special, and I hope these ideas can help you do the same. Whether you’re planning a large wedding or an intimate gathering, remember that it’s the little details that make your day uniquely yours. Happy planning!
