Farewell
Well friends, here we are. We’ve reached the end of this blog’s road.
I started this blog back in November of 2017, exactly one year to the day after my ex-husband left. At the time, I had gained some perspective, stability, and strength. I wanted to pass that along to all of the other women going through breakups, especially divorce. I wanted to create a safe space for my fellow Black women to be vulnerable about their breakups and co-parenting - to let go of our brave faces, not worry about the stigmas, and just relate to and build up one another.
As time progressed and I continued writing, I realized there was still so much more work to be done in my healing journey. I didn’t have it as figured out as I thought and I wasn’t nearly as close to being done as I thought. But that was okay. I continued therapy, talking with you, and trusting in God.
In the past 3 years, I’ve learned so much about strength, vulnerability, and grief. I’ve learned it as I’ve explored my own thoughts and feelings to write this blog. I’ve learned it as I researched and observed in preparation for writing various parts of this blog. But I also, and most rewardingly, learned it from the amazing conversations I’ve had with you, my readers, on this site, on social media, and through email.
I’ve learned to be a better writer, storyteller, and listener. I’ve learned just how much women go through that we don’t talk about. I’ve learned how much that not talking about it damages our wellbeing. I’ve learned that healing is not a straight line, but rather a crazy, loopy, roller-coaster one. I’ve learned that’s okay.
Thank you so much for taking this journey with me. For relating to me, talking with me, understanding me, trusting me, and respecting me. While I may not be writing this blog anymore because divorce doesn’t last forever, nor do its sentiments, I will still be busy - dating, co-parenting, making career moves. I hope that we’ll still talk and inspire one another in the years to come. You can read about my non-divorce related endeavors at itslaurenmarie.com. You can always catch me on social media - Instagram and Twitter mostly. You can always email me. And if you see me out and about, I’m always down for an in-person chat.
I pray you to have a wonderful 2021, and life thereafter, and that you continue to grab your light.
