Taking a Step Back to Rest and Recharge

Lauren Marie Hopkins

Friends, now we know that life be lifin’. And the past few weeks have proven that to me. On May 10th, I married my amazing husband. Yay! And just a week later, on May 17th, my father transitioned to glory. Then, on June 3rd, I signed a lease on our new home. Amidst these major life transitions, I realized I needed some time… time to rest and recharge.

Maintaining mental, physical, and spiritual wellness is so important for our overall health and happiness. When we prioritize our well-being, we’re better equipped to handle life's challenges and support the people in our lives. According to a study by the Pew Research Center, working moms spend an average of 98 hours per week caring for their families and managing their jobs, effectively working the equivalent of 2.5 full-time jobs. This relentless schedule and workload can lead to burnout if we don’t take time to rest and recharge.

Pausing allows us to realign with our purpose and renew our strength. As Matthew 11:28 reminds us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This scripture is God’s beautiful reminder and encouragement to rest and take care of ourselves so that we can be our best selves and continue to be there for our families.

So last Friday marked my last day of work before I embarked on a much-needed pause to focus on my spirit, soul, and body. It’s taken me many years of living and therapy to understand and honor what my body and soul need. Right now, that need is to step away from the constant performing for others and focus on my mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

During this time, I'm excited to develop a daily scripture reading and meditation practice to nourish my spirit. I'll sync my workout regimen to my cycle for optimal health and energy, and refine my diet for better nutrition. I'm eager to explore what my next career move will be and embark on a rebranding journey. I'll also enjoy decorating our new home, settling into married life, and spending quality time with my daughter, especially since her summer camp was canceled.

Stay tuned for my journey. I’m looking forward to coming back refreshed and ready to embrace whatever the future holds. In the meantime, follow me on social media for more insights and personal stories.
